This is America's holiday, folks! We are
celebrating our past good fortune of having landed at Plymouth Rock, met up with some
friendly Indians and had a feast together. No other country celebrates Thanksgiving Day in
quite the same way we do. So, put on the aprons or hop in the car to the nearest ambitious
relative's (or friend's) house and pig out ... er, turkey out. And remember to say
thank you to who or whatever swings your skirt for all your good fortune! P.S. ...
remember the fizzy, digestive aid stuff. ;-)

While we're on the cooking
subject, here's a few tips from this cook:
First and foremost ... do NOT overcook that bird! Dry turkey is a drag. I always buy the
turkeys with the pop up thingie. Works like a charm. Let them figure out the timing ...
I'm way too preoccupied. Or use a meat
thermometer. It'll tell you when.
A turkey is done when the meat thermometer reaches 180 degrees F deep in the thigh. Also,
juices should be clear, not pink when the thigh muscle is pierced deeply. A stuffed, 20
pound turkey takes about five hours to cook in a 325 degree oven.

Next tip ... the very best pumpkin pie is, in my experience, the recipe on
canned Libby's pumpkin. It's easy, safe and always gets raves. I've had some pretty awful pumpkin
pie in my time. Don't understand why, it's so simple.
Another goodie I like (this will make my buddy Queen Can-ivore happy) is Cool Whip.
Yeah, I know it's full of ingredients but it's sooooo yummy!
And remember to buy extra foil and plastic wrap for take home goodies and
leftovers.
